about Founded through a donation from Nokia Corporation, CMTEL opened in the Summer of 2006 with the goals of developing awareness of color and material technologies and global trends, and introducing CMT-based design research into the curriculum at Art Center. Subsequent donations from Avery Dennison Corporation and RTT USA, Inc. have supported developing a materials library, online database, as well as classes, lectures, workshops and projects with an emphasis in color, materials and trends. Courses that take place in the lab include material explorations, lighting technologies, trend insights and designing for sustainability. In addition, Art Center's student-led EcoCouncil hold their weekly meetings in the Lab, discussing issues, sharing resources and developing special projects based on responsible design.
